We dermand respect...we will get respect...thank you very much
Honduras has spoken. 111 out of 128 congresspersons ("Diputados) voted against going back in time to the day before the legal removal of Ex-President Manuel Zelaya Rosales and in essence bringing him back to power. 14 congresspersons voted in favor of restituting back Zelaya, and 3 were absent for this particular vote.
The Honduras Congress decision was based on the legal opinion and testimony given by the Honduras Supreme Court, the Procuraduria General de la Republica, the Attorney General Office and The Ministerio Publico, and the National Human Rights Commissioner, on the events of June 28 that removed Zelaya. The decision not to bring back Zelaya to power in any form by the Honduran Congress substantially complies with article 5 of the Guaymuras-Tegucigalpa pact signed by Zelaya and Micheletti.
Last Sunday, November 29, voters went massively to voting booths and elected a new president, Mr. Porfirio Lobo Sosa, in a unobjectionable win over its 4 opponents. The legality of this elections cannot be contested. Here http://hondudemocracia.blogspot.com/2009/09/explanation-why-honduran-november-2009.html I present 10 arguments why these elections are legitimate and valid.
So, this blog entry is to tell everybody, stop interfering with our country. We will not tolerate any more your interventions and will go our own way. Your comments indicating that you will not recognize the legitimate elections and therefore our new President are not welcome and will fall in deaf ears. When you decide to respect us and treat us like equals, we will listen again. Certainly, those expressions, indicating your "displeasure" with the Honduras Congress decision, will also not be heard.
So, to the leaders of Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia, OEA, Brazil, Spain, and any other who does not respect our will, we say firmly... do not intervene in our affairs anymore...no more unwanted, unsolicited interventions in our beloved Honduras.
Only thing left to say is...Viva Honduras!!! Viva Honduras!!!

Sres.

Farming First - A platform
I share with you a very interesting knowledge and position platform called Farming First http://www.farmingfirst.org/ Farming First proposes six principles (below) from which to drive policies and activities that can benefit farmers globally. Once you go into details of each principle, we can see that an preliminary proposal http://hondudemocracia.blogspot.com/2009/11/como-alimentar-honduras-y-el-mundopor.html I made a couple of days ago, is quite consistent with this effort.
The Farming First Principle are:
1. Safeguard natural resources
2. Share knowledge
3. Build local access and capacity
4. Protect harvests
5. Enable access to markets
6. Prioritise research imperatives

The new Honduras....It is up to us
Several times I have written in this blog that we want and need a new Honduras. One based in freedom, democracy, independence, social justice and prosperity for all. This new Honduras cannot happen unless WE make it happen. Yes, I do hope that Mr. Pepe Lobo will be the leader that will facilitate this process, but in the end it is up to us to build this new Honduras. No more blaming everybody else for our past failures, rather concentrate on defining our own path. Certainly, we can learn from others on what worked and what didn't, while becoming even more industrious and pursuing excellence as our standard for the future. I cannot write again and again these ideas enough as they are so important.
As Mr. Luis Consenza wrote in Proceso Digital http://www.proceso.hn/zona/0003_cosenza.htm the elections we just witnessed cannot be as a whole criticized or questioned by anybody.Well except for some individuals who just happened to ignore what they saw -and heard- Hondurans voting massively and saying NO again and again to what Mr. Zelaya became after three years in his Presidency and what he more or less imposed unto people. Completely different things than what he proposed as a candidate of the Liberal Party. Well, there are another persons, a certain individual isolated int the Brazilian Embassy whose intelligence reports where telling him that in most voting stations there where 4-5 people voting and another "supporter" flying around the world telling stories of thousands dead in Honduras. No wonder the isolated person was led astray...with intelligence and supporters like that...
Yes, there will be specific problems associated with specific administrative positions and locations in this election, but these are localized and will not influence the overall voting results. By the way, this happens in all elections around the world. Mr. Cosenza's hypothesis that Honduras voters have punished the Liberal Party due to the economic irresponsibility of its governments, is quite intriguing, but certainly does not tell the whole story and will need to be discussed in detail. Mr. Consenza does bring up the division within the Liberal party as the other major factor explaining the overwhelming defeat in this election.
In the end, we do not want to let apathy dull our senses and let government go back to their old ways. As Mr, Gaspar Vallecillo points out in La Prensa today http://www.elheraldo.hn/Ediciones/2009/12/01/Opinion/Psicopatia let us be vigilant a fight the possibility that the egocentrics and psychopaths of the past triumph again. We do need to be vigilant and work diligently with this new government to build Honduras, while at the same time pointing out its failures and transgressions as needed. This done in a positive and constructive manner, not with the traditional party line approach that questioned everything without even a solid justification...just because.

Democracy in Honduras won with the elections
Honduras rewrote its history by saying again NO to any attempt to subvert its democracy and constitution. Honduras with a remarkable participation rate (see el Blogicito de la Gringa http://lagringasblogicito.blogspot.com/2009/11/hondurans-will-they-vote-or-stay-at.html for data on abstentionism for all elections) in spite of the psycological warfare done by members of the "Resistencia", heavy rains, and all the commotion with Zelaya's legal removal, went to the ballot boxes and voted massively.
Make no mistakes. Here we do not have winners or loosers in this election. I believe that my vote, the same as all the people who voted in the election, is a clear and unambiguous message, to all politicians that we want to move on and we want change in our country.
With our vote we are sending now the clear message that the politics of yesterday will no longer be tolerated. We want to see well thought, effective and targeted policies and programs that will address the highest priority problems including poverty, security, health, education and living quarters, without forgetting that we need to modernize our economy and become more competitive.
Not addressing priority problems will continue to be the breeding ground for discontent and for other "Messiahs" such as Mel Zelaya to come along and sell us snake oil one more time. We do not want to see any more cronyism, nepotism, improvisation and buffoonery, and the fact that becoming a civil servant meant winning the lottery for a lot of people, that characterized many previous administrations, not only that of Zelaya.
As of a couple of minutes ago according to Honduran newspapers,Mr. Pepe Lobo seems to be the virtual winner of this contest and will likely be the next President of Honduras. So, Mr. Pepe Lobo, the people have trusted you and have given you a vote of confidence that you will lead us to the XXIst century and thus evolve as a nation. I know that you know that Honduran vote this time is not unconditional, rather that this is a new pact with the country. We will be following Mr. Pepe Lobo's administration very closely. However, this is the time too to contribute to this process with ideas and proposals for making our dream of a better Honduras possible. So, I would encourage everybody to do so as soon as possible.

I voted / Yo vote
From Washington DC I report that the voting process continued without any news up to 2:30 EST when I went to cast my vote. I voted in ballot box 15,521 and after presenting my identity card, responding some questions to the ballot box supervisor in order to confirm my identity in the electoral register, I filled my vote and proceeded to deposit it in the ballot box. The electoral register included a full copy of each one of the registered persons' identity card in order to cross check with the register. The whole process went without any delays. I really congratulate the Supreme Electoral Tribunal by the excellent organization of the event.
There was a small group of demonstrators against the voting process across the street from the votign center, but I did not see major issue there.
Mission Accomplished, Compatriotas
