Who are the interested parties for or against Honduras return to the OAS?

Lord Palmerston
"We have not eternal allies and we have not perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and peretual and those interests it is out duty to follow."
Lord Palmerston, British Prime Minister 1859-1865

We need to identify who the parties are that have an interest for or against the return of Honduras to the Organization of American States (OAS).

Once we list the who, then we need to figure what and the why for their positions.

Here is a potential list of countries and actors:

Venezuela  - Chavez
Colomibia - Santos/Uribe
Charles de Gaullle
United States
Panama - Martinelli
Guatemala - Colom

Honduras - Lobo, Zelaya, FNRP,
ALBA bloc (Nicaragua, Bolivia, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, etc)
Argentina
Brazil
Peru
El Salvador
Mexico
Canada
Human rights groups and other special interest/pressur groups

Who else?

Thanks to all of who have contributed to the list and the motives behind such inclusions...I will credit people when I publish the next post with the what/why...

"Treaties, you see, are like girls and roses: they last while they last."
Charles de Gaulle

  1. Zelaya has definitely been against Honduras' return to the OAS. When that happens, he loses his power to manipulate Lobo.

This may be farfetched but I'm wondering if Chávez did a turn around based a promise by Lobo to join Petrocaribe or maybe even ALBA? Or maybe he promised a constituyente? I just wouldn't put anything past Lobo.

I'm not sure what Brazil has said recently. They aren't necessarily going to follow Chávez or the US.

  2. I just realized that you left out one of the most important groups -- the "human rights" groups. I put that in quotes because many of them are political groups who give themselves more power by calling themselves a HR group. But a real HR group would be concerned for all HR, not only those with similar political thinking.
