Civil Society Organizations present anti-crisis plan to President Lobo

The Economist Association of Honduras (Colegio de Economistas) presented a anti-crisis plan to President Lobo (to see article in Diario Tiempo Click Here) . The plan was developed by the Foro Social de la Deuda Externa de Honduras (FOSDEH),  Colegio de Economistas, Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC), Federación de Organizaciones No Gubernamentales para el Desarrollo de Honduras (FOPRIDEH). President Lobo indicated that he would fold this proposal into the national plan already published in the official government newspaper "La Gaceta". So, the lesson from this note is that at the very least Mr. Lobo is receptive to new ideas.

I knew about FOSDEH and their publications, presentations and analysis are really very good (to see FOSDEH web site click here) . This may represent another venue to open a discussion. I don't know much about FOPRIDEH (to see FOPRIDEH web site click here) but just by looking at their web site and examining vision, mission and objectives, seems an interesting potential partner for discussion.

Anyhow, I used to have access to a discussion platform called DGROUPS supported by FAO, UNDP, UNECA, KIT, CTA, the CGIAR (the umbrella system to which my institute IFPRI belongs) and others. Let me check if this is still working,  if not we can think about other platforms.

  1. ...Thing that caught my eye was the reference toward the end of the first para, to "the national plan already published in ....La Gaceta."

I'd be very surprised to see a new national development plan published just two weeks after Lobo was sworn in. Not only would that be some sort of record for writing such a plan, I'd also wonder about citizen participation in developing the plan.
I looked for web site for La Gaceta to see if I could find the plan, but without success. In any event, is the plan that's mentioned does exist, it'd be interesting see what the latest vision of the future of Honduras is...

  2. I am also looking for the text of the plan. As far as I understood, the so called national plan was published just a couple of days ago in La Gaceta. What was the process and/or who participated is still a question I don't have an answer. I will ask some contacts and see if they have this document.

  3. BTW, we also have to keep in mind that what is the definition of a "national plan". Are talking about a roadmap, a business plan, an action or task plan, a concept note, or a full blown proposal? If one examined some of the early national plans posted by the then candidates (in one of the online newspapers I can't remember which one), they were pretty thin or basic campaign promises type of thing....
