La portavoz de la Comisión Negociadora del Presidente Micheletti, Vilma Morales, hizo hoy las siguientes declaraciones en respuesta al llamado del Sr. Manuel Zelaya a entorpecer las elecciones presidenciales.
"El Sr. Manuel Zelaya nuevamente rompe la promesa que hizo cuando suscribió el Acuerdo Tegucigalpa/San José al llamar a la comunidad internacional a no reconocer las elecciones presidenciales. El punto 3 del acuerdo que textualmente dice: "Para lograr la reconciliación y fortalecer la democracia, reiteramos que de conformidad con los artículos 44 y 51 de la Constitución de la República de Honduras, el voto es universal, obligatorio, igualitario, directo, libre y secreto, y corresponde al Tribunal Supremo Electoral, con plena autonomía e independencia, supervisar y ejecutar todo lo relacionado con los actos y procesos electorales. Asimismo, realizamos un llamado al pueblo hondureño para que participe pacíficamente en las próximas elecciones generales y evite todo tipo de manifestaciones que se opongan a las elecciones o a su resultado, o promuevan la insurrección, la conducta antijurídica, la desobediencia civil u otros actos que pudieren producir confrontaciones violentas o transgresiones a la ley. Con el fin de mostrar la transparencia y legitimidad del proceso electoral, instamos al Tribunal Supremo Electoral a que autorice y acredite la presencia de misiones internacionales desde ahora y hasta la declaratoria del resultado de las elecciones generales, así como durante el traspaso de poderes que tendrán lugar, conforme con el artículo 237 de la Constitución de la República de Honduras, el 27 de Enero de 2010." , que obliga a ambas partes a reconocer y apoyar el proceso electoral, pero el Sr. Zelaya hace todo lo contrario evidenciando lo que ya sabemos todos los hondureños- que el dice una cosa, pero hace otra.
"La pregunta que todos los hondureños le hacen al Sr. Zelaya es: ¿por que le teme a las elecciones democráticas de Honduras? ¿Por que no quiere que nuestro pueblo elija a su próximo líder? ¿Que propósito oscuro lo impulsa a obstaculizar la voluntad del pueblo? Todos los hondureños lo queremos saber".
"Este gobierno siempre ha dicho que la situación política del país se resuelve pensando no en intereses personales, sino en el futuro y bienestar de nuestro país. El Presidente Micheletti le apuesta a que la democracia y el voto es el mejor instrumento para construir un país mejor. Evidentemente, el Sr. Zelaya no piensa lo mismo, ya que continúa interponiendo sus ambiciones personales sobre las de nuestro pueblo".
"Nuevamente, hacemos un llamado al Sr. Zelaya a recapacitar. A poner los deseos democráticos de nuestro pueblo sobre sus intereses personales. A cumplir con su palabra cuando suscribió el Acuerdo Tegucigalpa/ San José. Aun está a tiempo."

Tegucigalpa-San Jose Agreement
The spokesperson of the Negotiating Commission of President Micheletti, Vilma Morales delivered today the following statement in response to Mr. Manuel Zelaya call to interrupt the coming presidential elections.
"Mr Manuel Zelaya once again breaks the promise he made when signing the Tegucigalpa-San Jose Agreement calling on the International Community to not recognize the coming presidential elections. Numeral 3 of the agreement reads as follows: ¨In order to achieve reconciliation and strengthen democracy we reiterate that according to articles 44 and 51 of the Constitution of the Republic of Honduras, the vote is universal, obligatory, egalitarian, direct and secret and it is the Supreme Electoral Tribunal with autonomy and independence charged with the supervision and execution of the complete electoral process. At the same time, we call upon the Honduran people to peacefully participate in the upcoming general elections and to avoid all sorts of demonstrations against the same or against its outcome, or acts to promote insurrection, illegal conduct, civil disobedience or any other act which could produce violent confrontations or transgression of the law. With the purpose of demonstrating the transparency and legitimacy of the electoral process, we call upon the Supreme Electoral Tribunal to authorize and accredit the international missions from now until the announcement of the result of the general elections, as well as the inauguration of the new elected authorities which will take place, according to article 237 of the Constitution of the Republic of Honduras on the 27th of January 2010.¨, which binds both parties to recognize and support the electoral process, but Mr. Zelaya does the complete opposite showing as we all Hondurans know- that he says something but does the contrary.
The questions that all Hondurans ask Mr. Zelaya are: ¿why does he fear democratic elections in Honduras? ¿Why does he not want that our people elect their next leader? ¿What ulterior motive drives him to hinder the will of the people? All Honduras want to know the answers¨.
This government has always stated that the political crisis of the country will be resolve thinking not of personal interests but in the future and wellbeing of our country. President Micheletti firmly believes that democracy and the ballot are the best tools to build a better country. Evidently, Mr. Zelaya is not of the same mind, because he continues to put his personal ambitions before those of our people¨.
Once again we call upon Mr. Zelaya to reconsider. He must put the democratic wishes of our people over his personal interests. He must abide by his word when he signed the Tegucigalpa-San Jose Agreement. He still has time¨.
